As a customer you sometimes need to negotiate a good deal on your own behalf.

You may be a great haggler at your local market but how good are you at negotiating with your utility suppliers and insurance company for example. When was the last time you rang them up and tried to negotiate better coverage for the same price?

Its not often that we take the time to read all of the terms and conditions (T&C) that come with standard products like bank accounts, credit cards, mobile phones and software applications.

As more people are using smart phones with the technology and phone apps that are easily downloaded onto our phones to make our lifes easier, it is easy to forget to read the T&C that are issued by the suppliers of these products.

The Qld floods have caught many people without any funds to see them through the initial days of this crisis and fortunately the government was quick to step in and get emergency funds to people who needed it.

Often this emergency assistance is not quick enough and sometimes your emergency isn't a national disaster and you won't get government assistance.

Could you get access to cash quickly if you needed it in any kind of emergency?

I read with interest the update on China's president calling for the US currency to no longer be the universal international currency in today's Wall St journal.

This is the second time in two decades that the US dollar has been at the centre of world wide debates as to whether it really has the strength to be used as a universal currency. A position the US dollar has held since the end of WWII.

I am quickly becoming a minority in my home state, someone who is still living in their own home and whom hasn't been displaced by the floods into emergency accommodation.

With many roads cut off both local and into towns and cities, food supplies can get a bit interesting. Those of us still at home need to find ways to get creative and use all of the food resources we have on hand.
