Tax deductions for your job
Those of us who have fairly simple tax affairs, income from our job and maybe a couple of deductions, are often quite happy to do our own tax returns online through the tax office website. So how do you know if you are claiming all of the deductions that you legally can for your job?
To help you get the most tax back, the tax office now list deductions for specific occupations on their website here for everyone to read. Click on the plus sign beside occupational rulings to see whether your job has additional deductions you can claim. The list includes builders, hairdressers, cleaners, lawyers and 12 other occupations.
If your job is listed, follow the prompts to the ruling and then click on the paragraph number next to Deductions in the contents table. This will take you straight to the area where all of your specific deductions are listed.
If this leaves you a tad confused or your tax return is more complicated, book in to visit a tax accountant. You can find a tax accountant near you on the CPA website here.
